New Year's Resolutions. Some of them serious.
Happy January, everyone!
2017 was a pretty decent year, all things considered. I accomplished a bunch of my goals, as well as few I wasn’t expecting. I like to take a moment to sit back and take a look at my accomplishments. Not to brag or nothing, more to reassure myself that I’m doing okay when my heart tries to tell me otherwise.
I published two novels; one of which is still selling better than I had hoped.
I got promoted at my day job, which is always something to be proud of.
My personal debt has gone down.
I purchased a bicycle and I’ve started to use it.
I hoped my sister-in-law get a job where I work.
I stood my brother as he finally went and got married.
I taught my first eight-week class for new employees at my office, which was probably one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. I’m looking forward to teaching again.
My wife got thinner and hotter. (Okay, that’s really more HER accomplishment….but I’m still enjoying the view greatly and it’s actually motivated me to eat a bit less as well.)
So it’s time for new goals to set, new mountains to climb, new conquests to take. Here are my resolutions for 2018.
Try to remember more friends and family birthdays with a card or a call, and not just a Facebook message. That’s for people who speak to you once a year, maybe.
Continue teaching my daughter to be a good and decent human being.
Publish two new books. Maybe a comic book, too.
Get signed by a literary agent.
Drop from 230 pounds to under 200.
Less Dr. Pepper. Not completely, that’s just crazy talk. But you know…less.
My personal debt is less than it was a year ago. Next December, I want it to be half of what it is now.
Continue to aspire to make the world a better place for other human beings just by being in it. It’s the legacy I want to leave when I die fifty years from now.
Am I being too ambitious? I’ll let you know a year from now. But for now, thanks for checking in on me every now and then, thank you for your friendship, and go out and make your personal corner of the world a happy place for those around you.
